FlyGearZ is an interactive dance
event where EVERYONE dances with an emphasis on fun, great choreography that
is sync'd in time with the music. Our shows are designed to be immersive
environments with a particular fondness for all things steampunk! Our
friends and fans seem to really enjoy the costuming component of our shows
and go all out to match the show's theme. Costumes are always encouraged but
never required as we do our best to make our shows inclusive - we simply
want our friends and fans to dance!
Some background:
Jenna Dirval is a ballroom dancer in RL and has danced in some fashion
throughout her life. She learned to "dance" here, in SL, in 2015 and debuted
at Guerilla Burlesque. She quickly discovered that stage acts took weeks to
create and would be over and done in 3-4 minutes on-stage. If lag ate the
act (as often happens) all of that hard work would be for nothing. Where's
the fun in that?! Through her time at Whymsee, Jenna found that she really
loved the Whymsee format of dancing "with" everyone vs dancing "for" every
one on a stage. FlyGearZ was founded in July of 2016. The FlyGearZ concept
includes choreography that matches the music in terms of style and is sync'd
to match the timing too, i.e., rumbas, salsa, Charleston, hip-hop
and so on.
2016 - Jenna won the "Avi Choice" award for "Favorite Choreographer."
2018 - FlyGearz moves its home base to Calas Galadhon..
2021 - Jenna won an SLEA Grant where she built the proto-type for
her current home region of Flyte.
The grant enabled her to explore new ideas in dance.
Jenna also collaborated with other dancers to offer workshops in
Dance for new SL Choreographers.
2022 - Jenna was interviewed (along with her then DJ Dave O'Saurus"
by Designing Worlds Hosts
Saffia Widdershins and Elrik Merlin. Here's a link for that
interview:

We have two types of shows - one that is 100% pre-chorographed and one that
is a "Live" format, we also sometimes mix both formats.
Pre-Choreographed Shows:
Jenna chooses the music for each show and generally goes for an
uplifting and happy/fun feel. Each song is choreographed by her to
match the tempo/rhythm and style of the music. Generally speaking
our shows tend to feature 12-14 dances. Interestingly enough,
each song will take anywhere from 2 hours or a few days to complete.
So on average she spends 20 hours per show on the choreography
alone.
Another feature of Choreographed shows is the impressiveness of the
environment which is built to enhance the show's them.
For example: Roaring 20s, Sci-Fi, gypsy, Bollywood, Pirates,
hauntings and so much more.
"Live" Shows:
Our fans seem to enjoy both formats and they go all out for their costumes -
they're truly wonderful. We have amazing friends and fans!!
Our live shows are more a loosely planned dance event where Jenna,
again, chooses the music (and some times plays requests)
and dances everyone live off her HUD! Incidentally Jenna's regular
dance hud contains over 1200 animations and she knows them all!
It's always a fun and more laid back type of show.
Depending on the location, music our themes have included:
Steampunk
Sci-fi
Roaring 20's
Mad Max
Artic explorations
Zombies
